A flutist who moves beyond the instrument’s traditional boundaries, bringing contemporary creation, voice, and chamber tango together in a space of experimentation and cultural dialogue.
Ana Ligia Mastruzzo is an Argentine-Italian flutist, artistic researcher, and cultural curator based in Buenos Aires. Her practice unfolds at the intersection of performance, research, and cultural mediation, with a particular focus on contemporary creation and cross-cultural sound heritage.
Formed in the French flute tradition under Luisa Sello at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Tartini, she developed an artistic approach that combines technical refinement with experimental inquiry. Her work centers on expanding the expressive and symbolic possibilities of the flute through close collaboration with composers, interdisciplinary formats, and the integration of voice, text, and non-European sound traditions.
As a soloist, she specializes in contemporary repertoire and has premiered numerous works written for her. Her award-winning debut solo album Multisonora (Global Music Awards) reflects her commitment to new music and sonic exploration. Supported by Argentine cultural institutions and international programs, she performs and gives masterclasses across Europe and the Americas, promoting Argentine contemporary music and fostering artistic exchange.
Together with guitarist and composer Federico Núñez, she forms a chamber duo dedicated to both contemporary music and chamber tango, reimagining Argentine musical traditions through new commissions and refined arrangements that position the flute–guitar ensemble within current compositional and performative discourse.
Alongside her artistic activity, Ana Ligia engages in curatorial and institutional work as Professor at the “Manuel de Falla” Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires, where she leads initiatives in diffusion, academic extension, and international relations — conceiving platforms that connect artistic production, education, and global circulation.
Her research and publications explore the performer’s role in contemporary music and the presence of Mesoamerican sound heritage in current Argentine flute repertoire, articulating performance as both artistic act and critical inquiry.

Multisonora Flute Proyect
about
Multisonora Flute Project is a performative and pedagogical platform rooted in artistic research and contemporary flute practice.
The project explores the flute as a plural, expanded instrument — historically layered, culturally situated, and technologically mediated. Through Argentine contemporary repertoire, live electronics, spoken word, and the use of both modern flutes and pre-Columbian Mexican clay double flutes, the performance unfolds as a transdisciplinary sound environment.
On stage, I integrate instrumental performance, recitation, and electronic textures, articulating a dialogue between tradition and experimentation, notation and orality, acoustic resonance and digital extension.
The repertoire includes works by Juan Carlos Tolosa, Gonzalo Biffarella, Federico Núñez, Luis Naón, Marta Lambertini, Gerardo Gandini, Matías Giuliani, and Martín Matalón — composers who redefine the sonic and symbolic territory of the flute within contemporary Argentine music.

My debut solo album brings together works for the full spectrum of the solo flute family, including the Mexica Trilogy, composed especially for me — Kuikatl, Quetzali, and Coyolyantotol — a powerful cycle for a single performer, weaving transverse flute, pre-Hispanic clay double flute, and my own recitation in Nahuatl.

Mastruzzo-Núñez Duo
Chamber tango & Contemporary
Bio
Founded in Buenos Aires in 2022, the duo explores both contemporary music and chamber tango within the historic flute–guitar ensemble. Their work moves fluidly between newly commissioned repertoire and reimagined traditions, positioning the ensemble within today’s concert landscape.
Rooted in a refined chamber music approach, the project expands the expressive language of tango while actively collaborating with contemporary composers to generate new works written specifically for the duo. In this dialogue between tradition and creation, tango is approached not only as cultural heritage but as living concert repertoire, in conversation with Latin American and European influences.
Their projects include:
Popular Airs — featuring music by Astor Piazzolla, Aníbal Troilo, Béla Bartók, and Celso Machado, presented in Argentina and on tour in Italy and Spain with the support of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tangos del Olvido: Singer-Songwriters on the Music Scene — an award-winning project presented in Mexico through the “Argentine Culture to the World” program, revisiting lesser-known tangos by composer-performers such as Tita Merello, Nelly Omar, Libertad Lamarque, María Elena Walsh, and Eladia Blázquez. New arrangements by Federico Núñez have generated previously unpublished chamber repertoire for flute and guitar. In July 2026, the duo released their debut album, Tangos del Olvido, with EPSA Music. The album is available on all major digital streaming platforms.
In 2025, the duo toured Poland, performing at the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers and at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, presenting world premieres by Latin American and Argentine composers written specifically for the ensemble. The tour was followed by performances in Italy and Greece.
